This original wall sculpture pays tribute to the Southern Cross constellation - the beloved night beacon of the Southern Hemisphere.
The stars are emulated on a fabulous slice of Australian Coolibah burl animated with wildly swirling grain reminiscent of a cosmic web. Each star is framed by fingertip impressions as symbolized in Aboriginal sand drawings.
Surface voids are inlaid in the terrazzo style with pure jewelry grade Turquoise from the world renowned Sleeping Beauty Mine.
The natural edges are carbonized using the ancient Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique.
As a final touch, the entire piece is preserved with clear lacquer to ensure a lasting finish.
